Though long-time Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek died on November 8, 2020, fans of the gameshow have still been able to catch his familiar face on TV. Given how far in advance the show is taped, the episodes from the past two months have almost all been new—making it sort-of feel as though Trebek is still out there, bantering with contestants during the commercial breaks.
Sadly, our supply of new episodes featuring Trebek as the host of Jeopardy! have dwindled, leaving us with one final week of shows. Here’s how to watch them, as well as a few other ways to commemorate the legacy of the pop culture icon.
Originally, the final new episode of Jeopardy! hosted by Trebek was supposed to air on Christmas Day—December 25, 2020—but there was a change in the schedule “due to anticipated preemptions” around the holidays, The Wrap reports. Instead, from December 21, 2020 to January 1, 2021, the gameshow aired two weeks of reruns featuring some of Trebek’s favorite episodes around the world.
But this week is it—for real this time. The last new episodes of Jeopardy! featuring Trebek will run from Monday through Friday this week, with the final show airing on Friday, January 8. In addition to the unanticipated scheduling changes, a representative from Sony said that Trebek’s final week of episodes was pushed back “in order to give his millions of fans a chance to see his final appearances.”
The week will begin on Monday, January 4 with a “powerful message about the season of giving” and conclude Friday with “a special tribute to the life and work of the man who captained America’s Favorite Quiz Show with skill, style, and sophistication for 36+years,” a rep for Sony told The Wrap.
Jeopardy! will continue to air at its regular time and on network TV—meaning that most people should be able to catch the shows via an antenna, even if they don’t have cable or a live TV streaming service like Hulu Plus. Check your local listings for details.
If watching the final episodes of Jeopardy! doesn’t feel like enough, here are some other ways you can mark the end of a pop culture era (and legend):
Play a game of Jeopardy! online with a group of family or friends.
Watch some of Trebek’s best TV cameos on shows like The Golden Girls, Cheers and Baywatch.
Check out the collection of Jeopardy! episodes currently available on Netflix.
Take the test to see if you qualify to be a contestant on the show.
Get involved with The Compassion Project, a national initiative to provide compassion education to elementary school students across the country—and one of the many causes supported by Trebek and his wife Jean.
