If you haven’t already brought Baby Yoda/Grogu/The Child into your home for the holidays—whether in the form of a giant stuffed animal, a walking toy, or just obsessive rewatchings of The Mandalorian—there is another... option (to borrow Yoda’s dramatic phrasing from Return of the Jedi): Use your Android phone to drop a virtual Grogu into your physical space.
No, your virtual pal won’t quite offer the same loving warmth as having a small, flesh-and-blood alien baby friend fucking around with your spaceship, but it’s something. To get started, make sure your Android is updated to the latest version of the operating system—and all of your apps are updated too, because why not—and launch Chrome or the Google app. Do a quick search for “Baby Yoda” (or “Grogu”), and you should see this option in Google’s little fact box:
Tap on “View in 3D,” and you’ll get this lovely, larger image of The Child. Make sure you turn up your volume, too, as Grogu will even make his trademark gurgling noises. (Sort-of. They sound a little off from what you’d hear in The Mandalorian.)
From there, tap “View in your space” to bring the galaxy’s most-wanted baby into your home. You’ll probably be asked to confirm a few permissions, and you’ll then need to point your phone at the ground for the augmented reality to work. But when you do, up will pop Grogu, gurgling and all.
And that’s it! You can try pinching to make him slightly bigger and smaller, but I never really saw that do too much. Really, your goal should be to place him in as many silly settings as possible and taking lots of photos. Also, I’m not sure if its strictly canon, but I didn’t realize The Child was only about as tall as a Blue Yeti microphone. If that’s the case, I think the most amazing thing about Grogu is that he manages to avoid getting stepped on. Great track record, that sleepy little force-wielder has.
