You can finally drag-and-drop email attachments from Outlook into Microsoft Teams. Sure, it took nearly five years for the feature to show up, but it’s here.
To move an email attachment from Outlook to Teams, start by opening an email in Outlook (with an attachment, of course). Click on the attachment to highlight the file, and then drag it into the Team’s conversation to share it. That’s it.
This may not seem like a major change for those who don’t use Outlook or Teams, but it was a major annoyance for users. Before the new feature existed, you had to save an email attachment, open its location on the desktop, then click and drag it into Teams or open it through Teams’ file browser.
The new drag-and-drop file-sharing between Teams and Outlook is just one of several new cross-app features that are showing up in Microsoft’s apps lately.
The company is currently testing a new version of Outlook that will streamline the app’s appearance on all desktop and web platforms, including the default Windows 10 Mail app. Part of that streamlining includes easier-to-find shortcuts and integrations with other Microsoft apps and services, especially the Office 365 suite. More features could show up as Microsoft’s rollout for the new Outlook continues.
The new Outlook is still in testing and won’t be fully implemented until 2021, but you can try an early version of the app right now.
There’s also new Outlook integration in Edge Chromium. The browser’s recent version 88 update adds a section to Edge’s new tab page with a preview of the latest incoming emails from your Outlook inbox. Edge 88 also has new password security tools for your Microsoft account, a side-bar search, visual upgrades that bring it more in line with Microsoft’s other apps, and more. You can read about all the changes here.
