Amazon’s Luna cloud gaming service is now available for Android in the U.S., adding yet another option for playing console-quality games from anywhere on your smartphone. Using Luna on Android is simple, but there are several requirements you’ll have to address before you get started.
First, you’ll need a compatible phone. Luna only works on select devices running Android 9 or higher, including:
OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7 Pro 5G, 7T, 7T Pro, 7T Pro 5G 8, 8 Pro, Nord
Pixel 4XL, 4A, 4A 5G, 5
Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, S20, S20 Plus, S20 Ultra, Note 10, Note 10 Plus, Note 20, Note 20 Ultra
Amazon says it will support more smartphones in the future. If you don’t own one of the phones listed above, you can play on Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Fire TV devices.
Along with a compatible phone, you’ll need to install the Chrome browser. Luna doesn’t have a dedicated mobile app, but instead accesses games through a browser—that’s how it was able to launch on iOS—and the Android version only works on Chrome. Luna also requires a stable wifi or mobile data connection. Amazon recommends playing over 5Ghz networks to give yourself the best possible connection; you’ll need at least 10Mbps download speeds or higher.
You’ll also need to pair a Bluetooth controller to your device for Luna gaming. Luna supports Amazon’s Luna gamepad, the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4, and the Xbox One controller.
And, of course, you’ll need a Luna subscription. Luna is currently in early access, but you can request an invite here. The service offers a piecemeal subscription model where you can subscribe to “channels” from specific publishers, but the only two options are Amazon’s Luna Plus channel for $6 per month, or the Ubisoft Plus channel for $15 per month.
With those requirements out of the way, here’s how to use Luna on Android:
